WALK WITH ME AGAINST RACISM

Being apart of a minority brings about a lot of discrimination and racist remarks. We have all heard the remarks to each ethnicity and if you haven’t I have to wonder if you live in bubble. To take a stand against Racism Radio personality Reggie Dee is walking from Dallas, TX to West Palm beach, FL!

What I love about this is that it is to stand against racism FOR ALL. I know I have been called many names. Now its time to stand up and say no more! If you live in any of the areas or close to I want encourage you to get out there and walk with Reggie Dee and the other supporters. I will be Joining Reggie Dee February 25 in Winter Garden, FL and walk to show my support against racism.

If you can’t make it out to join him I encourage you to get a group of friends and do it for you. Maybe order the shirts and one day all of you wear them and walk to end it. The world is a hateful place, only we can change it.

TAKE A STAND

Lately when I look on the news I get enraged. What is with the world and Discrimination?  Look how far we have come… Integrated schools, integrated marriages, women rights, rights for African Americans, gay marriage and rights for their partners… We have come so far, but now I feel like we are going backwards. WAKE UP AMERICA WHEN WE DIE WE LEAVE THE WORLD FOR GENERATIONS TO COME! This is too much hate for a world with too much progress.

I am a person, a human being. I am a person whose gender female. I am a person whose sexual preference is women. I am a person whose ethnicity is Middle Eastern. I am a person. I WILL NOT BE CLASSIFIED AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PERSON. I noticed more than anything we as people classify and discriminate against others. It sickens me honestly. Black lives matter, White lives matter, Transgender lives matter, Gay lives matter, Native American lives matter…. the list goes on and on. People all lives matter! My life is no more important than the homeless man sleeping in the park. My life is no less important than the President of the United States. All of our lives matter equally. Which means that my rights matter equally. Open your eyes to what is going on in the world today and Promote love, acceptance, knowledge and understanding. If everyone tries to kill or control people different than who you are, There will be nothing left but people who you believe are like you.

I am equally as disturbed by the government trying to control our lives. I understand that when the constitution was made there was not nearly as much diversity as there is now, but our country was diverse with different tribes of Native Americans.  The Constitution starts out “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” Think about that for a second. We the People… not the certain classifications of people, but all people.Yes we have a majority of caucasions, yet we have a lot of minorities because America is the melting pot of people. We have all kinds of people with different ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders, and races. Those are what make us different. What makes us the same is when you cut our arms we all bleed the same color blood. We all have a heart and that is the reason we are alive. Why do people feel they have the right to control if a woman has an abortion or not. They do not have to live with the consequences of the decision.

Honestly until recently I was never really truly aware of what being a transgender person really was. I have met some amazing people who showed me it is no different than me. They are transitioning to the person they are meant to be. This year I went to Transgender Day of Rememberance and on these signs that led up to the place where the vigil was held. I was in disbelief of how many people have been killed because they were being who they are. Those PEOPLE ( From we the PEOPLE) were a brother a sister a lover a friend a wife or a husband. Recently a new bill has been brought up…. what the bill states is that a transgender person cannot use a public bathroom for the gender they live their life as, but have to use the bathroom for the gender they were born. NOW EXCUSE ME BUT THAT IS THE MOST DISGUSTING THING I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE! How can anyone even think of something like that. You are intruding on their personal rights first off. Second off is there nothing better to focus on than what a person who lives their daily life as the person they are to degrade them to using a bathroom of the opposite sex. THAT IS DEGRADING!  THEIR LIVES MATTER. TRANSGENDER LIVES MATTER. THEY ARE APART OF WE THE PEOPLE!

Recently I had read a story about two African American man who had shot and killed a two caucasian teens. At sentencing one of the shooters stood, Frederick Young stood up after hearing the statements made by the families of the victims and said “I’d like to say sorry to the families of Aiyana Jones, Michael Brown, Eric Garner and I want to apologize to them for not being able to get justice for their loved ones who were murdered in cold blood. And in respect for the peaceful protest I want to say hands up, don’t shoot, black lives matter. That’s it your honor.”  By killing two caucasian teens this is not peaceful. Those two teenage boys lives matter! I see the stories on the news of all the young African American teens who are killed and in my opinion justice has not been served to them. Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown are two that I know everyone has heard about. Radio personality Reggie Dee is taking a stand by walking 1300 miles from Dallas, TX to West Palm Beach, FL to take a stand against racism! Being Iranian and a proud one at that I got a lot of crap from kids at school because of 9/11. I was being punished for what people I had never met, never even knew existed did. To this day some people think its funny to make comments that oh don’t make them (talking about Middle Easterns) mad they will blow you up. I don’t have statistics but I do have other Middle Eastern friends. They were bullied as well. I have an old boss that had neighbors discriminate against them and try to run them out of the neighborhood. MIDDLE EASTERN LIVES MATTER!!! THEY ARE APART OF WE THE PEOPLE!

I have a very very good friend of mine who is Native American. We have had a lot of conversations because my favorite football team is FSU Seminoles. I didn’t want to offend her because during football season I post a ton of football stuff and I also know that the Mascot is a Native American. I messaged her to let her know because I would never want to disrespect anyones heritage because of my posts. I will say this I do not agree with the Native American being a mascot, it could be easily changed to something else from the tribe. I will say thought when I see him ride out before the football games I see a strong man representing Heritage. The war paint on his body representing stories of fights that the tribe had been involved in. I don’t see a mascot I see history. Talking throughout the days with her and learning some of the stuff I have I can’t believe what this world has come to. I mean I have never agreed with how their land was taken from them. I learned that some people are in awe when they see Native Americans like they had never existed. I remember in 2nd grade there was a Native American festival… its been quiet a few years so I don’t remember everything but I do remember we sat in a circle and watched as they did a tribal dance. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. The music was very different than anything I have ever come across and I was intrigued.   Native American LIVES MATTER. THEY ARE APART OF WE THE PEOPLE.

I notice instead of people taking the time to learn about whats going on, and see the world we pretend its not happening. Then when something big happens were like oh wow I didn’t know. All People Matter. All Lives Matter. Without education you will never truly value the life of a person different from you. We have come sooo far! We have all types of technology and ways to get knowledge. Talk to someone different than you! This is too much hate for nothing. We don’t want a world full of hate and ignorance for our children and grandchildren for the generations to come.

RESOLUTIONS

I know I am very late… But lets talk about resolutions. I know in America we do the New Year Resolutions… Well today I am going to challenge that . See I made my New Years resolutions just like everyone else, but how many people actually keep them? I just had my 26th birthday and so far i have been keeping up with my resolution to become healthier and lose weight… It got me thinking though is a new year defined by a calendar year or from the time you step foot on this earth? So being that its my birthday I decided to add to my new years resolution a birthday resolution.

People are probably thinking a birthday resolution I barely stick to a New Years resolution. The way i see it is when we do our resolutions for the upcoming year we set the goals to impossible yet possible levels. Why set them so high? Why make them all at once? When setting goals I have always been told to do it one step at a time, not make a huge goal that when i do make progress it still seems like I haven’t really put a dent in what I am trying to achieve.

So 2015 Is going to be my year… I NEVER keep my resolutions, some years I wouldn’t even make them because I don’t like to set myself up for failure and that is usually what happens when I make resolutions. This year will be different. From the time of my birthday this year to the time of my birthday next year I want to read 100 books…. So my birthday resolutions is to read 8-10 books a month. Which is totally doable.

When your birthday comes around think of something you want to accomplish by the time you turn your next age and break it down. Make a birthday resolution to accomplish it, and do it. DON’T JUST SAY YOU WILL ACTUALLY WORK FOR IT. If you don’t put in the work you wont achieve the goal at hand. I wish you all luck! REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR YEAR MAKE IT COUNT!!!!

HOLIDAYS

I can’t sleep soo I thought I would blog!! Woot woot!!!

Holidays are coming… like next week. The One Thing I Love About The Holidays Is Family time! I was lucky to have family around when I need them… Although many Christmas ‘ s my mom had to work it was a bummer but we did have our family time. We celebrate like any other family with a tree and spend time decorating it together. For thanksgiving mom would start cooking the night before, she still does actually! I love the smell.of her food.

These are times for family time. Once I hit teenage status the presents pretty much stopped but family time didn’t!  Make sure you spend time appreciating who and what you have.

My son is 6 and although he will be receiving toys and presents this year we will be making a trip to the hospital to deliver toys to the children’s ward. It’s time for him to give back and appreciate what he has. Hopefully we can make a new tradition out of it.

Ignorance can be overcome!

Growing up you always here stereotypes.  In school some were the geeks, the popular group, jocks, losers, goths, etc…. Last week I was told I’m confused about who I am because I’m Gay and I do drag…. A person who has never met me and knows absolutely nothing about me except that I am a male illusionist entertainer had the audacity to tell me I want to be a man… I am 25 years old I had hoped the stereotypes like these would have disappeared with age…. I guess not!

There is nothing more tragic than a close minded person! They are also the best accomplishment when you can broaden their horizons a bit… and its not easy at all!

As I was scrolling through my Facebook feed the other day I saw a post where my friend was talking about Native Americans and she had said someone who was very ignorant stated all the natives were gone. Well we all know that isn’t true at all, but let’s say that they were gone like the Aztecs. That still gives no person Any Amount Of entitlement to disrespect that heritage. There’s good and bad in all the world, in all different kinds of ethnicity. I beg of you all the people spread knowledge, spread love, spread peace!

I know who I am! I know what the world we live in is like. I know what is happening around the world. I know of all the bad going on in the world. What I don’t know is why isn’t the good outweighing the bad! You won’t know a person’s story but what you will know is what they see in you! Share a smile, a hug, even a hello! Pay it forward because we can’t keep living in a close minded society! We have overcome segregation and a lot of discrimination,  not all but a lot! Now imagine a world for our grandchildren and their grandchildren where love out weighs hate. Where knowledge is bliss and ignorance Is not tolerated amongst anyone! We can do this but only.l together can we fight the war otherwise the future for those to come is dark!

TO LIVE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER?

Growing up you always hear about heritage. My heritage has a certain way of dressing and acting. I am soooooooooo lucky to have a mother who allowed me to chose my way of living, my way of dressing, and my way of acting. I got to choose who I am, whereas a lot of middle eastern women can’t. They are forced to cover up, to pray 5 times a day, and to “know their place”. It isn’t something you just see on television, it is a reality to those who live it.

Close your eyes and imagine not being able to walk down the street with your hair blowing in the wind. With shorts and a t shirt on. If your old enough to go out to a club imagine having to sneak underground to go partying. I am sure if my dad had it his way i would be covered up and living traditionally. Not that living traditionally would had been a bad way of living, but in America we forget how much freedom we actually have. Where we as women have a voice!

This past weekend I went out for Mister Lake City Pride. How many countries in the Middle East would allow me to dress as a man and compete for a title? i can answer that NONE! I do know that in the Middle East some women do live their lives as men so they can go out and have a freedom that is a right we are given. If the government found out those women would be stoned… In drag stoning is a fabulous thing, in the Middle East it is not. Q

My dilemma growing up was to live as i thought would be traditional or live to find out who I am. In school and even now i am more proud of my Iranian heritage. It is beautiful, it is what makes me different from others and it is what makes me appreciate the freedom I have to choose to live one way or another. I am lucky to be given the chance to grow into the person I am without limitations. I see some women choose to live traditionally and I tip my hat to them with respect because they have chosen to do so. My opinions would not allow me to though, but just because I don’t cover up and live as a traditional Iranian woman does does not make me less of an Iranian woman, it just empowers my American side as well as respecting my Iranian heritage.

BULLYING…

This is a topic i take seriously!! As a new school year begins we need to teach our kids to stand up for what is right. I have been bullied for being fat, for being Iranian, for being different! In 6th grade hated my life absolutely hated it! No kid should have to hate going to school because of other kids… No parent should have to see their children cry themselves to sleep. So many times I made myself sick so I didn’t have to go to school the next day.

Now a days people are bullying more and more, driving people to suicide! This is a disgrace. No matter what your ethnicity is… AMERICA IS A MELTING POT. Its a place for you me and all the other individuals to live in peace….

INDIVIDUAL… what does that word mean to you? To me it means someone different than myself! Someone to learn from! Someone to teach! Someone who has the possibility to become more than the horrific name a bully just called them!

Look back in your life was there a time someone made you feel less than what you are? Harassed you online? Called you names that degraded you? My strength and will to end bullying comes from countless years of being called fat… Now i proudly smile and say I am fluffy… If someone else can’t change it then they don’t have a right too comment on it! Being called a terrorist after so many years knowing that my family is full of Good hearted people makes me smile because ignorance must be bliss to those. But i will educate those that are close to me so they can educate others and we as a society, a mixed bred of people, can end this .

Iranian New Years!!!

I am a proud Iranian as proud as can be… I am American as proud as can be! The best memory I have as a child was putting on those itchy ugly dresses my mom would buy me and going to an Iranian New Years celebration. 
Iranian New Years is very different than the New Year Americans celebrate… First off Iranian New Year is in March, second there’s no ball drop at midnight. There are concerts where famous Iranian singers come and a huge dance floor where everyone, and I mean everyone gets up and dances traditionally.
 There’s food like rice, kabobs, yogurts with cucumber, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and so much more!! The sweets and ice cream… mmm!!!
The memories are like yesterday, I can’t wait to expose these traditions to my son and girlfriend. To show them how I grew up and what I looked forward to every year. It has been a few years, but next year I’m definitely going I hope some of the people reading this will look into it and go.

Exposure to other cultures bring knowledge,  and knowledge brings well rounded minds to a close minded world… Spread love for others and other cultures no matter what the media shows I promise it’s not all like that… There are good and bad in every culture, in every society, in every religion. Look for the good because the best memories and experiences are made that way!!

My name is and I am!

My name is Halleh and in translation it means Halo. I was born in Nashville, TN. My parents are both 100% Iranian. I am 100% Iranian but I am the start of the Iranian-American generation of my family. Being born here provided me opportunites that a lot of Iranian women don’t get and won’t get. I am proud of my heritage. 

My family is kind of diverse. My father is strict and very old fashioned and my mother is Americanized to an extent. Growing up my parents were very strict. I couldn’t go to sleep overs,  I couldn’t have friends over, I couldn’t date… My friends were going to the mall by themselves and I had to have my cousin follow me around or be with family. My family wasn’t too traditional. The most traditional thing I can remember was Iranian New Years! It is my absolute favorite time of the year, because we go to Iranian concerts, eat Iranian food, and do the persian dance!!!!  Although my family was overprotective they couldn’t protect me from the changes about to happen.

9/11 marked a huge huge huge turn in events for me. I was introduced to the negative side of being Iranian. I had never been called a terrorist till then, and kids would make fun of me left and right. Even today i still get the terrorist jokes when people ask me what my heritage is and I proudly say I am Iranian! So I laugh it off and let it go, but in the back of my mind I can’t help but think wow how ignorant! Always remember when you meet someone thats different than you doesn’t mean they fit the profile you have heard about. I am an American that happens to be of Iranian decent. I am a person who is proud of both the heritage she inherited and the heritage she has come to know because of her location. In my blogs I hope to show you a better understanding of not just me but of Persians… of people who are similar and different to you. We aren’t all the same that is what makes America amazing. We have all different types of people, different types of living, different types of language, and different types of personalities. Lets sink it in and spread love not hate. Esp. in today’s world where there is so much hate being given.
